Furniture theme logo - variations

So these are the variations i experimented with to further my idea, I added in "upcycled furniture" to fill in the space better and tried a different fonts etc.

Furniture themed logo

I wanted to try something other than just the text explaining what the business was so I came up with the idea of putting the font into the design of a chair, this is the first of a few different variations I have done.
I quite like the idea and think ill keep going with it to see where I end up with it.

Different style logo

For this design i tried something a bit different from the others, i like the compact square with everything inside it and i think with the designs alongside the type it gives you lots to look aat.

Logo design

These three designs are all variations of the same idea with the line and dot, just experimenting with different fonts to get a feel for what looks best

Second drafts logo designs

The logo above is one of my favourites from the set, I think the lines and dots give it a clean feel while giving something extra to see.

For this set of designs I stuck to using two calmer colours and let the type itself make it eye catching, I tried mixing different fonts into the same logo to make it more interesting.

First Logo Designs

These are the first set of logos i produced, at the start I didn't really have any idea of what i wanted my logo to look like so i just played around and made it colourful, after talking to my lecturer about the designs, he said he found them quite night cluby, was only when he said it that i could see it too, he gave me a few ideas which led me to my next set of designs...

First Draft Business Plan

Business Plan

Executive Summary
This is a new business which upcycles old furniture and household accessories to bring them into the modern new home.
We specialise in printing graphics onto furniture and adding accessories to old pieces to modernise them.
We work by sourcing old pieces of furniture ourselves and by donations of unwanted furniture from the public. The services we offer are; ready to buy upcycled furniture and accessories available from instore and our online showroom, customers can bring in an old piece to be upcycled to their requirements or we can do the redesigning for them ourselves.
Our aim is to create new funky pieces of furniture and accessories to bring a touch of character to any room.

Market
The UK furniture and furnishings industry contributes £9.4 billion to the country’s GDP and the majority of the industry is made up of small to medium sized businesses.
Looking into where is the most popular for UK furniture exports, I found that the Republic of Ireland and the USA were the main destinations, followed by Germany and France. Having found this I will keep my focus on marketing my product solely in Ireland first and then move on to bigger exporting opportunities when the business becomes more known.

Target Market
My target market for this business is people looking for something unique and different to modernise their home. Environmentally conscious people furnishing their home could also be a large section of the market as they would value the recycling/ upcycling element of the business and could be more inclined to buy products like this for their homes.

Competitive Analysis
Having researched similar businesses in my area, I have noticed that none of them have any products upcycled to the style that I will be using. Where a lot of what they have on offer is just repainted pieces, the products I will be creating will be a lot more creative and quirky, I think this gives my business and advantage point.

Management Plan
I plan to use a very small workforce with the start up of my business hiring a maximum of two employees. The majority of the design work will be done by myself and I can train the other workers in the techniques we will be using to create the products.

Financial Factors
The main spending from the business will be the cost of premises to work and sell from. Followed by the employees wages and the cost of materials. The cost of materials will be very low because of the sourcing methods we will use and any donations of unwanted furniture made by the public. The cost of materials needed to upcycle the furniture are very low costs to the business.

Name Ideas

I went through a lot of different options before settling on a name that i thought suited the feel of my business and was a catchy easy to remember name.

these are the other name choices I went through:

ReVive
ReNu
New Life
Adorn
Home to Home
ReVamp
Ordinary to Extraordinary
ReMod
Trash to Treasure
Evolved
EVolvd
Making Trash into Treasure
Turning Trash into Treasure
Second Chance Treasures
Trash Revived as Treasure
New Life Treasures
ReAdorn
Reinventing Treasure
The Living Room

ModerNice
Part of the Furniture
The Modern Shed
The Modern Cottage
Modern Den
The Hat Stand
ReRun
The Mod Shed
The Mod Cottage
The Mod Hut
The Mod Lodge
The Mod Cabin
The Mod Pod

I chose The Mod Pod as my businesses name as it incorporated the modern aspect with "Mod" (short for modern) and "Pod" another name for a home, I think the two work well together to create a snappy name.

Final Year Final Project

For my final project I want to start up my own business in interior decoration, more specifically the furniture, textiles and accessories used to create the theme in any room.
My plan is to take old unused furniture and upcycle it with a modern twist of graphic art printed onto the items. The method used for this would be first to create images/designs in photoshop and have them printed. Transferring these images to the furniture would all be done by hand using varnishes and stains to produce the upcycled piece. Similar methods would be used to transfer to textiles and other accessories e.g lamps, vases.

I first had the idea for starting this type of business when I was asked by a family member to re decorate her old bedroom furniture instead of her disposing of the old set and buying a new one. The cost of redecorating the furniture was substantially lower than purchasing a new set, and when finished looked just as good. It got me thinking about how much old furniture people dispose of and how instead of creating more waste it was a much simpler solution to use these old pieces to create new ones. I set about finding out how to get my hands on old furniture and found that charity shops and car boot sales were great for finding cheap well intact furniture. I also asked around family and friends and have come across quite a few with sheds and garages stacked full of old pieces they don’t want to dump but no longer have any use for.
